Mercedes & BMW

If you ever repair your BMW or Mercedes,
you will be shocked that the former
always drains more from your pocket,
my thinking is they(BMW), unlike
Mercedes, intentionally lower their
intial price (a little bit),
but when comes to repair, they demand
a full repacement of whole damaged
part(s), yet Mercedes fixes only the
part(s) which is(are) necessary,
because they understood their (BMW)
followers always demand their cars in
top shape, they will fix whatever their
tempestuous "lover" desired; in my
area, BMW dealership charges a $140.-
fee just to diagnose the problem.

Befor I buy a certain car, I always
check google for car review and have
a second opinion from my trusted
mechanic.

Dr. T made a comment about whether it is worthwhile to spend so much money on luxury cars while you can buy less expensive but reliable cars like Toyotas or Hondas .

His point is well taken, but I believe luxury cars are not all hype.

I was once hit on the driver side while driving my Lexus LS 460. My car almost flipped over but it didn’t. I believe it didn’t flip because of it’s weight. It weighs about 3800 lb. If I were driving a Camry or a Honda Civic, being a much lighter car (weighing 2800 lb) it probably would have turned upside down or sideway.

I guess an SUV would even be safer, but I don’t want to give up the comfort of a sedan.

I have been trapped in the belief that
Mercedes is safe car(I still believe)
and reliable( I doubt very much now).
I had Mercedes oil lead from the day one
like Dr. T said. BMW? No thank you. The
parts is more expensive than Mercedes.
I got rid of 2 used BMW consecutively.
Now the Mercedes ML320 I bought 2003, a used 1999 model with 40,000 miles was
not reliable any more. 1st Transmission
was broken about 70,000 miles and cost
more than $3,000 to have it fixed. Than 2 month ago just over 100,000 miles big trouble
it almost cost my life. The power while
driving at 65 MPH drop dead on the free
way. No brake no Emergency light and
nothing I tried. I let the car slipped
on the right side of soft shoulder and
asked help. To make the long story short
ML320 is in fact a defective CAR.
It took Dealer 31 days to fix it and
they received instruction from German.
I had car for less than a month.
What would you do, JC, if you were me?
Buy a Japanese SUV or stick with ML320?

My BMW's transmission broke down on me,
the Mercedes' motor oil leaked
profusely, rear differential gear leaked
too; strangely, all of my other
experiences with Japanese and American
cars have never had any problem, hmm...
I wonder why? when those pretty damn
things sat idly on the curbside, all
those disdainful glares from the passer-
by down on you, doesn't it looks
stupid? if look can kill, that must be
it!
these were all happened in Taiwan, are
those imports by Taiwan importers
different from the U.S.? it's just
too much, I don't need the vanity.

People from Taiwan, if they could
afford, always own a Mercedes as soon
as settled down in Southern California.

to TonyL;

Infinity Q45 was replaced by M45 2005
in the States. The 45 Sport is equipped
with a standard 4.5-liter, V8, 325-horsepower engine that achieves 17-mpg in
the city and 23-mpg on the highway.
In fact, Infiniti FX 35 and FX45 are
very popular SUV with best performance.

American judge the people by what car
you are driving. Its like a symbol of
status.
I asked some of the German tourists
they too admitted its symbol of status.
In fact, they think that Japanese cars
are made better in quality comparing
with their German brand like Mercedes
and BMW.

From my own expereience, I would suggest
the following brands, because they
are better performance, less repair:
Honda, Accura, Toyota, Lexus.
Don't-touch list, especially in Taiwan,
is:
Mercedes, BMW, and others.
Of course, if money is no object to you,
these German cars are best performers,
but what the heck you need them in
Taiwan! there's no place for your to
test that little pathetic machine!

Buick is quite good, so are other
American cars, comfortable, durable,
buy only under 3000cc, becuae of the
taxes, they are quite good for old
me, like me.

I have driven all of the above brands,
spend a bundle on car is just dumb,
sheer dumb!

In America, everyman I know has basic
knowledge about fixing the car trouble.
Its their culture.養車 is not big deal.
As long as you keep routine oil change
you will be alright. The used car range
from $500 and up to no limit. question
is the parts cost you more than you
can imagine. Bob bought old Mercedes 420
at $2,000. It run a few thousand miles
without trouble. Than it was broken
down with catalytic converter malfunction.
The part only costs him $3,640 +labor.
As a result, he either gives it up or
find cheap part in other States.
I guess in Taiwan the labor is cheap
if you can find parts in junk-yard of
used car you probably will have the
car on the road again by spending a
couple of hundred dollars.

In buying a car, I have several thoughts to share with others:

1. To buy a car that you can afford and is consistent with your income.

2. To select a lighter color so that it would not take too much heat from the sun in the summer time.

3. To buy a car that has a good reputation. In the U.S., Toyota Camry and Honda Accord are the 2 most reliable
cars.

4. To buy a car which can take all the family members and your parents inside.
A mini van fits this expectation pretty well.

5. To buy a car with cash if you have saved enough because interest, insurance, and other expenses are costly.

6. To have oil changed every 5,000 km. A clean oil would make the car last much longer.

7. To park you car inside so that the paint would not fade away soon.

8. To buy a car with adequate horse power so that it can climb Taiwan mountains whenever needed. In the U.S., we need a powerful car to climb the Rocky or Appalachian mountains.

When I was a graduate student, I had driven used cars for years until I can afford to buy a new car.

Hey, guys, if you have a deep packet and
1st time car buyer, I advise you not to
buy a new car. Here is why.
1. New driver on the road tends to make
few mistakes like scratch the bumper
while miss the turn, small accident
because you have not familiarized
car driving. The repair is costly.
2.U drive out from the dealer with new
car then change your mind, one day will
cost you the lose of value over 25%.
3.Car in U.S. is daily necessity. It is
an asset which you do not want to lost
its value. The crucial fact is that new car devalue every year not like real
states. Use money wisely.
4.New car is the target of car thieves.
Not only this, if you buy expensive car
it would induce the criminal to mark you
you as target of black-mailing.
As for 養車 I will comment another day.
